1. Project description

In Bayugan city, Philippines, promoting and implementing a bike platform and creating a safe place for the locality is the best ways to combat the problem of the greenhouse gas emission caused by vehicles. The shift of the mode of transportation is a much more practical and sustainable means of mobility. It is a new implementation in the city as many people are into biking. PadyaKalikasan is a campaign that aims to create a bicycle-friendly community and to advocate eco-friendly mobility that incorporates climate change mitigation; advancing climate-resilient and low carbon development. It encompasses:

• Equipping community with bicycle repair station and bike parks
• Integrate environmental awareness in the community and
•  Establish network with the local government to implement policies for specified bike lanes.

The main highlight of the project is the installation of sets of bicycle rack and repair station in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, Philippines near the school institution in the community. This step will yield our mission to provide bikers with a safe and accessible facility. Also, to encourage the public to shift to eco-friendly mode of transportation. Also, collaboration of plans and policies with the city government for bicycle lanes implementation. Additionaly, households and youths from the community will be reach for information drive/seminars regarding climate action, tackling environment concerns and promotion of using eco-friendly transportation which also be incorporated by creation of video materials regarding environment that will later distributed to all primary schools in Bayugan City.

2. Project Progress to Now

Our main goals and actions revolved around adopting of bicycle safety and convenience services (bike lanes, bicycle parking lot, and repair
station, enforce policies that promote safety and stimulate the shift to eco-friendly mode of transportation among the public, and improve mobility literacy and promote bicycle advocacy in the community in order to achieve the bicycle friendly community in the said city. With the generous support from the Korea SHE Foundation grant, we already achieved the following from month of May to June:
     1) Installed two (2) sets of bike racks in Bayugan City eco-park and night market with repair pumps;
     2) Shared and introduced the concept of our project to the youth and active volunteers;
     3) Printed flyers and collaborated with local youth bikers in the city;
     4) Facilitated a short joint biking activity together with the local bikers;
     5) Crafted scripts and produced two educational film series for our environmental literacy for the next month.

3. Project Plan Forward

We have received a lot of positive feedback from the local bikers in our community, which has contributed to the initial success of the project. However, due to the high costs of materials, the project team had to make adjustments to the implementation plan to align with the budget. Over the next few weeks, the team will primarily focus on leading educational initiatives to address the knowledge gap related to climate change. This will involve sharing our carefully crafted videos and learning materials.
