1. Project description

Seedball Mauritania aims to address several interconnected problems: the degradation of natural resources, the loss of biodiversity, and the economic struggles faced by local communities. The project\\\\\\\'s main purpose is to empower communities in Mauritania to have access to good quality seeds and enable them to engage in tree planting and permaculture practices to improve their livelihoods sustainably. Through this initiative, we plan to conduct the following activities

• Seed Production and Distribution: We want to establish a seed production centers to produce high-quality seeds of native trees and plants suitable for the region\\\\\\\'s climate and soil conditions. These seeds will be distributed to local communities, enabling them to grow trees and crops that can thrive in their environment.

• Community Training and Workshops: We are organising training sessions and workshops on permaculture techniques, sustainable farming practices, and tree planting methods. The goal is to equip community members with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully cultivate and manage their lands.

• Reforestation and Afforestation: We work closely with local communities to identify suitable areas for reforestation and afforestation projects. By involving community members in tree planting activities, we encourage ownership and stewardship of the newly established forests.

• Environmental Education and Awareness: We are also developing educational materials and conducting awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable land management. This will foster a deeper understanding of the benefits of tree planting and permaculture among the local population.

• Monitoring and Evaluation: We are implementing a robust monitoring and evaluation system to assess the project\\\\\\\'s impact on the environment, community livelihoods, and biodiversity. Regular evaluations will help make necessary adjustments and ensure the project\\\\\\\'s effectiveness and sustainability.

2. Project progress up to now

Here are the specific details of the project progress and activities:

Permaculture Training: Seedball Mauritania has conducted several training sessions on permaculture principles and practices for local communities. These workshops help community members adopt sustainable farming techniques and create resilient agricultural systems.

Awareness Campaigns: The project has also engaged with schools and children to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices. By educating the younger generation, Seedball Mauritania aims to foster a culture of environmental stewardship in the community.

Seedball Reforestation: One of the significant achievements of the project is the development of a seedball machine. This innovative device allows the production of seedballs that encase tree seeds in a protective clay mixture. These seedballs can be dispersed easily across degraded areas, especially during the rainy season. The seedballs protect the seeds from being eaten by birds or other animals and provide a suitable environment for germination, leading to successful reforestation efforts.

Community Engagement: The project emphasizes community participation and involvement at every stage. Local communities are actively engaged in selecting suitable areas for reforestation, participating in tree planting activities, and monitoring the project\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s impact.

Collaboration: Seedball Mauritania has collaborated with local NGOs, governmental agencies, and international organizations to leverage resources, expertise, and outreach. This collaborative approach strengthens the project\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s impact and sustainability.

3. Project plan forward

Our plan for the time remaining. Also the improvements, cautions, and expectations for future activities we would like to achieve.

1. It will be training in Permaculture: For the benefit of the neighbourhood communities, we held a number of training workshops on permaculture practises and principles. By participating in these workshops, community members can adopt sustainable farming practises and build robust agricultural systems.

2. Increase our campaigns to raise Awareness:  Our initiative has also worked with kids and schools to spread the word about the value of environmental preservation and sustainable practises. We wants to encourage a culture of environmental responsibility in the neighbourhood by educating the younger generation.

3. Reforestation with Seedballs: We created of a seedball machine which is one of the project\\\\\\\'s major accomplishments. This ground-breaking tool enables the creation of seedballs, which safeguard tree seeds inside of a clay mixture. Especially during the wet season, these seedballs can be easily spread across damaged terrain. Successful reforestation initiatives result from the seedballs\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' ability to prevent birds and other animals from eating the seeds and to offer an ideal environment for germination.

4. The most important is community involvement: We want always a place and a strong emphasis on involving the community at every turn. Local people have an active role in deciding which sites are appropriate for reforestation, taking part in tree-planting operations, and keeping track of the project\\\\\\\'s results.
