1.0 SHE Project Team Meeting

Below are highlights of our meeting on 30th April, 2021. We agreed that our project will;
  1. Target smallholder farmers at the Base of the Pyramid (BOP) who are mostly women and youths in order to help contain the impacts caused by COVID-19.
  2. Target smallholder farmers in Delta and Enugu state because of our distribution channel.
  • Lunch some part of our logistics department as soon as possible so facilitate the distribution of our products.
  1. Promote our project activities using 2 channels – offline by the use of posters and postcards and online by the use of Facebook ads.
  2. Train Food Tech students in one of the Universities in Enugu State Nigeria on food safety, processing and preservation.
Figure 1 below is the picture that we took during the event of our meeting.

2.0 Promotional Channels

We used online and offline techniques to promote the activities of our project. For the offline method, we used posters and postcards as shown in Figure 2.1.

For the online channel, we used Facebook ad as shown in Figure 2.2.

3.0 Project activities.

We targeted smallholder farmers at the Base of the Pyramid (BOP) who are mostly women and youths in order to help contain the impacts caused by COVID-19. Following this, we considered smallholder farmers in Delta and Enugu state because of our distribution channel. We also lunched some part of our logistics department so as to facilitate the distribution of our products.

3.1 Activity 1 – Training of Palm oil smallholder farmers in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria.

Palm oil is one of the cash crops that Nigeria women deal on in other to earn source of livelihood. Palm oil is one of the products every household in Nigeria uses and this is the reason we targeted the palm oil farmers.  We target palm oil smallholder farmers in BOP at Agbor, Delta state Nigeria as the state is one of our pivot distribution state. As could be seen in Figure 3.1, we trained about 50 smallholder palm oil farmers.

3.2: Activity 2 – Training of Seafood smallholder farmers in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria.

Following our strategy of BOP mapping, smallholder farmers in Warri, Delta state, Nigeria who are into seafood like crayfish, stock fish, fresh fish, etc were targeted. These farmers are all women and their products are used in all the households in Nigeria. We trained them on how to use our platform and food safety. Figure 3.2 is one of the pictures taken during the event of the training. We were able to train about 20 seafood farmers.

3.3: Activity 3 – Training of Poultry smallholder farmers

Following our strategy of BOP mapping, smallholder farmers in Enugu and Warri, Delta state, Nigeria who are into poultry businesses like chickens and eggs were targeted. These farmers are mostly youths and their products are used in all the households in Nigeria. We trained them on how to use our platform and food safety. Figure 3.3 is one of the pictures taken during the event of the training in Warri while Figure 3.4 is one of the pictures we took during the training in Enugu state. We were able to train about 10 poultry farmers both in Delta and Enugu state.

3.4: Activity 4 – Buying of second hand minibus

As a crucial part of our project, we purchased a second hand mini bus as shown in Figure 3.4 for the development of some part of our logistics department. The idea is to facilitate the distribution of our product and assist the smallholder farmers in carrying their products to our warehouse. This will really help in containing the effect of Covid-19.
