PadyaKalikasan is a campaign that aims to create a bicycle-friendly community and to advocate eco-friendly mobility that incorporate climate change mitigation; advancing climate-resilient and low carbon development. It encompasses:

• Equipping community with bicycle repair station and bike parks

• Integrate environmental awareness in the community through films and

• Establish network with the local government to implement policies for specified bike lanes.

• Integration of bike-sharing system in a campus

2. Project progress up to now

We are continuously communicating with the Bayugan City local government unit for the integration of the environment/bike facility plans in the Local Youth Development Plan 2023-2028. Also, we reached out to Butuan City for possible benchmarking for their plans on active mobility using bicycles as a mode of transportation in the city. In fact, last June 2024, we conducted a bike counting activity to consolidate data that will be presented to the lawmakers of the city. Meanwhile,  we also tapped the Caraga State University last May for the integration of the bike-sharing system (the first system in the CARAGA region).

Other than that, the team spent months producing environmental films that will be used in August - October for our capacity-building efforts in the community. Through films, we can promote the active participation of youngsters in the advocacy for green mobility and the environment as a whole.

Yesterday (August 19) we formally launched the bike-sharing system at Caraga State University by inking the Memorandum of Agreement. We were able to turn over the three (3) sets of bike racks, and ten (10) Korean bicycles to the said campus. This event is the start of achieving the sustainable mobility of the academe enabling the faculty, staff, and students to participate in the low-carbon development efforts of iKilos Bayugan\\\\\\\'s PadyaKalikasan and Caraga State University\\\\\\\'s eco-friendly vision. 

3. Project plan forward

Describe your plan for the time remaining. Any improvements, cautions, and expectations for future activities.

With the time remaining, the team will start the information dissemination to the community by reaching out to Bayugan National Comprehensive High School and other schools in the city. This effort will be implemented using the produced films and materials by the team. With the challenging engagement of youth/students to listening, we believe that the films will catch their interest and visual-learning capacity. Moreover, with the bike-sharing system on CSU campus, we will maintain the active mobility practice of the community within. We will consolidate the levels of carbon emission before and after the installation of bike facilities and bicycle systems. Through this, we can have solid data that will be presented also to the government or any agencies to further the shift to more eco-friendly means of transportation (and to create ordinances aligned with this practice) not only in our community but beyond.
